It’s All in My Head
Mixed Media on Panel
6 ft x 22 in x 6 in
Spring 2023
It’s All in My Head is a piece that is mainly about mental health, instability, and chaos. I wanted this piece to embody a space in my own mind that never stops racing and thinking. During the construction of this piece, I let my own body move at the same pace as my mind when adding things to the piece. I was very irrational and spontaneous when adding materials to the piece. I wanted this piece to embody the chaos and spontaneity that happens in my mind. This was extremely important to my body of work, not only because I was owning what I have struggled with for most of my life, but also because I let go of my fear of being judged and ridiculed for my mental illness through my own artwork.

Mind Numb
Dyed Rope Cord and BFK Rives

Fall 2022
Mind Numb is a work that is a part of a series that journals my emotions and my overall mood. During the process of making this piece, I wanted to highlight the emotion and idea of being dazed by depression. To showcase this idea, I initially turned to the idea of embossing the paper with the same rope that would be used to show the weight that the emotion is causing. This underlying emotion is further enforced by the constant shifts in cool-dark colors and subtle variations created by the dye process that I utilized. This piece was an important addition to my portfolio, personally because I needed an outlet to let my emotions go, but also because I learned that my materials were reflective of my mental and emotional state. The rope represents constrictive weighty baggage and the paper as memory and how my emotion resurfaces and bleeds into that memory.
