Unit 2 - Line
Line Swatches
This exercise teaches the fundamentals of the element of line, Students are tasked with choosing a singular object or collection of objects and creating an abstract continuous line drawing.
This process breaks down the form, abstracting the composition, and then allows the student to see how lines inform our everyday lives in a visual manner.
Line Patchwork Project
This project is designed to showcase a student’s ability to create a larger scale project with the element of line, while also teaching students to creatively solve problems in relation to composition, layout, and planning.
The student is given free reign to choose one emotion or feeling from a list, and then is tasked with abstractly depicting that emotion through the element of Line.
Unit 3 - Shape
Object to Shape
This exercise teaches the fundamentals of the element of shape, Students are tasked with choosing collection of objects to create a still-life, breaking down the shapes within the composition, and then collaging construction paper together to re-create that same still-life by layering basic shapes.
This process breaks down the form, teaches students how to simplify complex shapes, while also allowing students to apply shape in a creative and artistic manner.
